Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition - Using FSX: SE with Windows 10 - Steam News - Internet Explorer 11 has retired as of June 15, 2022
I already posted a question on this subject but I did not add enough information in my initial post. When I bought the game I was running Winows 8 which I upgraded to 8. The end of July I upgraded to Windows Several days ago I decided to play the simulator and when I attempted to run it I immediately got an error message telling me I was running the wrong version of DirectX and I needed to download and install DirectX 9 for the game to work. With Windows 10 I am running DirectX I fear that downloading and installing DirectX 9 will cause problems and I am hesitant to even attempt it.
According to my research FSX Gold Edition will work with Windows 10 but only provide I had not also installed the acceleration option which I had done. I figured maybe I could reinstall the game and leave out the acceleration option. Guess not. I load the first CD and the drive does nothing but continue to run full blast. I do not get any of the installation screens. I tried opening the CD and selected setup. I selected this option and got a dark screen with a small windo indication applications were being deleted??
The DC drive just continued spinning like it was going to launch out of the computer. Has anyone else had a situation similar to this and if so did you get anything to work and if so, how? Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I apologies for the inconvenience, we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can. Now, insert the CD into the drive again and check if you can access setup. Hope this information was helpful.
Please let us know the status of your issue so that we can assist you further. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Thank you for your response but unfortunately it came too late.
Because I had initially downloaded and installed the game on my laptop then copied all the files to an external hard drive when the Windows 10 upgrade installed it must have deleted FSX from my program files as it was not listed. Correct me if I'm wrong: I had read when the Windows 10 upgrade finished the old windows files were stored in a folder called window.
Again, I have no idea if this had anything to do with my FSX file not showing up in my programs list but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
I did some research and one member suggested downloading and installing the game on a separate drive I have a GB external hard drive I use for backup which I also attempted with no luck. When I try to install the game on the external hard drive I get a message informing me that setup does not support UNC or remote drive installations.
Guess that's out. As I type this I am again attempting to install the game so I can hopefully add any input real time. Right now I have a black screen with the heading "Microsoft Flight Simulator X - InstallShield Wizard" and in the upper right corner there is a small white rectangular box that is also labeled "Microsoft Flight Simulator X - InstallShield Wizard" and there are 5 blue progress bars and right above them it says "Removing Applications".
The last few times I tried installing the game this progress bar never went further than the 5 blue bars and the CD drive is spinning but nothing seems to be happening none of the sounds you hear as data is written to the hard drive.
I'm going to let this run awhile and see if anything changes and one way or another I'll add this to my post. Be back shortly. I'm back and it's been about 20 minutes. Apparently the game is in fact installing.
Hopefully the game will download and install with no glitches. I say this because there were always pictures and info about the game changing continually as the install proceeded. All I have is a black screen with this small progress box which is now right at the half way point. I'm guessing that so long as the download says it's being done via the "InstallShield Wizard" it should be OK. Let's wait and see what comes next. OK, I was just asked to install Disc 2 and everything is still downloading.
The files are installing per the info above the progress bar. It still bothers me that this install is nothing at all like it was when I first installed the game. Right now progress bar is just past the half way point. It's slow but it is at least downloading?? Everything has downloaded and the program is currently computing space requirements and downloading DirectX 9. Hope installing this won't cause problems. Installation is complete and I have provided the product key and successfully activated the game on line.
Started game for the first time and loading scenery files is taking a LONG time. Finally git game loaded and running and switching from one screen to another locks up the game or at least it seems that way. I do believe the time it took to get this reloaded was a waste. Have searched all the web trying to get a solution.
Its get the program up and running but its impossibly slow and when I change aircraft the thing just crashes. FSX worked great in Windows 7 Home! I am now thinking I will have to revert my windows from 10 back to 7. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.

I am going through reinstallation of FSX. My ASUS is presently on win Untill today fsx worked fine from original cd s. Fsx kept saying I needed to re activate.
In all of the installs I have done for RSX a beautiful game none other than when I purchased delux edition took as long as this to reinstall. It is now am and I started this at pm yesterday. I am now at 5 blue bars waiting to be told that applications have been removed.
But I took them out manually earlier ;. Sure hope this gets resolved soon. I wil be retiring in 2 years.
This game is supposed to install from the cd s. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit 3 people found this reply helpful.
It takes about 15 to 20 minutes and then start downloading. Just be patient but I had the same problems with FSX gold with windows I however also installed the Direct x as they suggested and still the game will load but crashes straight after you go into setting to alter various options of the game.
I have been using FS from and I find this very frustrating. What I have obtained from MS does not work. I used to download various aircraft and scenery when I used Vista and was working fine. I found that windows 10 does not support FSX with or without acceleration which I also fund very frustrating as when you record a landing non of the flaps or alteration to the external aircraft can be seen.
Could you suggest what flying game is similar if not with sucg scenery that can be purchased with some accuracy of flying? I activated it and it always ran fine. That computer went bad and I have now a windows 10 computer much faster and capable than the one I had before. It took me a long time days to get the 2 tapes of FSX Deluxe loaded because of encountering and going over all the issues mentioned in the comments above, specially Gary's.
Finally I got it loaded by waiting patiently for "Install Shield Wizard" to go through all its process with out touching it, many times the computer seemed it was running out of control. Finally a box indicated "loading completed" and the option to load the "Activation" number came up. I loaded it and everything worked fine.
I could run the missions and even free flights with different airplanes. It went through the similar process as the other 2 tapes but at the end did not give me the option to load the "Activation" number.
Instead it presented me with: "error code has occurred that prevented Activation to take place". It did loaded the tape and I went ahead and flew a mission which went on as normal, but after 30 minutes the screen went black and a message indicated that I was in the SAMPLE mode and the "Activation" number had to be loaded to be able to run without interruption.
Fsx windows 10 -
I also have had two major problems running Flight Simulator X since upgrading to Windows 10 however after much research and testing believe that all problems now appear to be resolved. I wish to therefore share my findings that may help others experiencing the same difficulties The first problem noted was that when a pre-saved flight was loaded in full screen mode, the loading screen was black. This problem was resolved by updating my video card drivers to the absolute most recent from the manufacturers driver update site.
Using windows update driver gave me a driver dated Nov 15 which did not resolve the issue yet the driver from the manufacturer site was dated Dec 15 and all worked properly. My second problem was that if I loaded a pre-saved flight and then attempted to change the time, date or year, which I do almost every time , the program would crash within less than a minute after reloading scenery textures etc.
Some online research and running the 'dxdiag' command revealed that the crash was due to a windows system file called UIAutomationCore. Removing both these files fixed the problem but introduced many others with other programs. Found that removing the file from just the SysWOW64 folder also resolved the FSX crash problem but found that certain aspects, like video display , did not work properly in the new Microsoft Edge Browser along with a few other issues didn't seem quite right.
I then tried changing the 'UIAutomationCore. I do hope that this information can find its way to those who can investigate further so that the incompatibility problems can be further investigated, the problem positively identified and a permanent resolution provided For now though I hope the above is able to assist others experiencing the same problems Was this discussion helpful?
Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Re: Black screen in full screen mode. Many have experienced this problem, and of course the workaround was to enter windowed mode to use the menu bar, exit sim, etc. And you have rightly observed that Nvidia's latest driver did incorporate a fix for this, one which I had used and worked well in this regard. However, I found that suddenly, mid way in a flight, I would get a freeze and have to reboot.
This happened a few times, so figured that the only change I had made in the intervening time was to update the Nvidia driver to So to test, I rolled back the driver to Will wait for Nvidia's next version and test that one out. I assume you are not getting the freeze problem with Re: UIAutomationCore. I had posted a while ago about this error. However, it is strongly recommended that the UIAutomationCore. Instead, an earlier version of the said. FSX will first search its own backyard for that.

Was this reply helpful? So I am very pleased to announce that I have been able to put the original back into the SysWow64 folder as using the file you suggested in the FSX directory has also stopped the crashing as you said it would!! So thank you so much as I am very pleased I now do not need to alter my Win 10 system files!!
However, using the older file you suggested does appear to have done the trick as I have just enjoyed a faultless 3hr flight!
Before commencing I was able to change from day to night and time date etc. All menus, selection and exit screens appear as do 'tool tips' for aircraft control buttons, so all is looking great for me with everything now appearing fully functional again without any glitches.
I do hope it can stay that way!! I used to experience some freezing which was always limited to around the Melbourne area however I was able to overcome this by disabling a freeware airport I had installed So thanks again for your valuable advice as it does appear to have restored my FSX to operate successfully on Windows !!

I tried to change the dll but I could not manage to move my win10 dll because I should need the admin capabilities, so I decided to put the win7 dll in the folder while the other one is still in there and I did, however fsx stop working after a while when I was cold and dark at the apron, so I take back the win 7 dll to the desktop.
I run fsx about minutes and it is looking good. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit 6 people found this reply helpful. The problem mentioned is when after using your FSX Menu bar many times, you suddenly get a freeze and subsequent game crash.
Is this happening in your case? If it is UIAutomationCore. If it is another error code, then that will need further investigation. In your explanation of what you've done, I think you may have got something wrong. Firstly, don't delete, move or alter any UIAutomationCore. What you need to do if you get this error in Event Viewer, is to download the version 6.
After downloading it, place the. Hope this is clear to you - write back if you have problems. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit 1 person found this reply helpful.
I'm not familiar with ivAp as it has to do with an Online flying network. You mentioned that your laptop keyboard works without problem with other computer programs, except when using ivAp, PMDG, etc. Speaking generally, you need to ascertain what program is causing this keyboard malfunction.
You will need to uninstall all these products to test this and reboot your computer. Then take a flight or more flights and see whether your keyboard and the allocated keys for FSX function properly. If they do, then you can install your add ons, only one at a time and test each one by flying, to see where the problem begins. I know this will be a long experiment, but you need to find out what program s may be conflicting with your keyboard.
I can't imagine it to be a PMDG product as they are fully tested and I have not heard of any such problem with them, but you will need to find out by checking each one out. Of course you would have updated your laptop drivers, scanned your system for errors and defragmented the drive except for an SSD. Another possibility if you think that ivAp is the cause of this problem is to visit their community forums you would be registered with them or send them an email.
Hope you can make some headway with this. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit 2 people found this reply helpful. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
